Essential Dubai Tips

1

Dress Code & Cultural Respect

Dress modestly in public places (shoulders and knees covered). Beach wear is fine at beaches and pools but cover up elsewhere. During Ramadan, avoid eating/drinking in public during daylight hours. Public displays of affection should be minimal.

2

Transportation

Dubai Metro is modern, air-conditioned, and cheap (AED 3-8 per trip). Taxis are affordable and metered. Download Uber or Careem for ride-hailing. Get a Nol Card for public transport. Avoid walking long distances in summer heat—everything is designed for cars.

3

Alcohol Laws

Alcohol is only served in licensed hotels, restaurants, and bars. It's illegal to drink in public or be drunk in public. Drinking and driving has zero tolerance. You can transport sealed alcohol from the airport but not drink it outside your hotel room.

4

Friday is the Weekend

The weekend in Dubai is Friday-Saturday (Sunday is the start of the work week). Some attractions and government offices close Friday morning. Plan accordingly and book Friday brunches in advance.

5

Tipping & Bargaining

Tipping 10-15% is appreciated in restaurants (check if service charge is included). Round up taxi fares. Bargain at souks and markets—expect to pay 50-70% of the initial price. Fixed prices at malls and modern shops.

6

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water, especially in summer. Tap water is safe to drink. Carry water when sightseeing. Most malls and attractions have water fountains. Avoid outdoor activities during midday heat (12-4 PM) in summer months.
